It comes down to this:

"to those who fear Him there is no want." Psalm 34:9

"they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing." Psalm 34:10

"No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly." Psalm 84:11

So.


Either...
1) I am not fearing Him and walking uprightly, 2) I am not seeking Him, or 3) "this" is not a good thing for me (at least right now).


Because...
1) He is good, and 2) He doesn't lie.

The Liar's Taunt

"Then [the enemy's spokesman] stood and cried with a loud voice in [the language God's people could understand] and said, 'Hear the words of the great king, the [enemy of your king]. Thus says the king, "Do not let [your king] deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you;  nor let [him] make you trust in the Lord, saying, 'The Lord will surely deliver us, this city will not be given into the hand of the king of [the enemy].'"  Do not listen to [your king], for thus says [my] king, "Make your peace with me and come out to me...until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.  Beware that [your king] does not mislead you, saying, 'The Lord will deliver us.' The Response

[Upon receiving the news of the enemy's threats against him, and taunts against the faithfulness of his God:]  Then [the king of God's people] took the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it, and he went up to the house of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. The Mocking of The Christmas Bells

1860 - Henry was at the peak of his success as a poet. Abraham Lincoln had just been elected President, giving hope to many.

1861 - But things soon turned dark for America and for him personally. The Civil War began, and Henry’s wife died in a tragic accident in their home. He suffered severe burns on his hands and face while trying to save his wife. He was so badly burned that he could not even attend her funeral. In his diary for Christmas Day 1861, he wrote, “How inexpressibly sad are the holidays."

1862 - A year after her death, he wrote, "I can make no record of these days. Better leave them wrapped in silence. Perhaps someday God will give me peace." Christmas day - the toll of war began to mount, and in his diary for that year Henry wrote, "'A merry Christmas' say the children, but that is no more for me."

1863 -  Henry received word that his oldest son Charles, a lieutenant in the Army of the Potomac, had been severely wounded with a bullet passing under his shoulder blades and taking off one of the spinal processes. There is no entry in Henry's diary for that Christmas.

1864 - Christmas day. He wrote the words of the poem ‘Christmas Bells'.

"I heard the bells on Christmas Day

Their old familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,

The belfries of all Christendom

Had rolled along

The unbroken song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing, singing on its way,

The world revolved from night to day,

A voice, a chime

A chant sublime

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black accursed mouth

The cannon thundered in the South,

The Promise > The Circumstance

"Here's a principle to keep in mind: The promises of God are as real as the circumstances you are in. Your circumstances say 'God has forgotten you.' Your circumstances say, 'I look for God, and just when I need God to come through for me, God doesn't seem to be any place.' That's what your circumstances say. The promise of God says, 'I will not leave you. I will never forsake you.' And that promise is just as real as the circumstances you are in. And so by faith, we look beyond our circumstances and we look to the promises of God."
